Caroline Stehlin studied with William Merritt Chase in New York as well as at his Shinnecock summer art school. In 1900 one of her works was awarded an honorable mention in the Shinnecock Exhibition at the New York School of Art, Stehlin exhibited regularly for some years, sending paintings to exhibitions at the National Academy of Design, the Buffalo Academy of Fine Arts, and Carnegie Institute in Pittsburg

At her death, Stehlin left three hundred works of art in a Boston warehouse. Passed down in the family, relatively few of these have appeared at auction.

درست كارولين ستهلين مع ويليام ميريت تشيس في نيويورك، وكذلك في مدرسة الفنون الصيفية في شينكوك. في عام 1900 واحدة من أعمالها منحت جائزة شرف في معرض شينكوك في كلية نيويورك للفنون، ستهلين عرضت لوحات بانتظام لعدة سنوات، وارسلت لوحات للمعارض في الأكاديمية الوطنية للتصميم، ومعهد كارنيجي في بيتسبرغ

في وفاتها، تركت ستهلين ثلاثمائة عمل فني في مستودع بوسطن. انتقلت معظمها لأسرتها ، وعدد قليل من هذه اللوحات ظهرت في المزاد العلني.
